Confessions of a Shopaholic comes out February 13, 2009!

Confessions of a Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella was on a lot of my friends’ favorite books, and I never had a chance to read it until a year or so ago on a flight that I knew was going to last me a few hours. I didn’t know if I wanted to read another ‘girly’ novel after reading the other books I was already reading, but I thought I would give it a try. When I started reading the first few chapters though, I was addicted — I immiediately fell in love with it. Rebecca, the main character, was definitely someone that any woman could easily relate to.

This is a book worth reading — and if you can’t wait to read it, then watch the movie when it comes out on February 13, 2009. I know I’m excited to see it with the same girls that I watched Sex and The City: The Movie with… but I have a feeling that we might like this a little bit more. Interested in checking out the book? Go here to purchase it, and go here to check out the official site for the movie.

Droolworthy: Miu Miu Wooden Handle Tote

3 12 2008

miu-miu-wooden-handle-tote

My obsession with purses continues with this lovely piece of art. Found on Net-A-Porter for the price of $1, 350, this beautiful creme colored piece of yum is perfect for my ever growing love of cremes & whites.  This Miu Miu Wooden Handle tote is, as the SOURCE states, has ’soya leather tote with gold-tone hardware… a wooden handle, a detachable buckle shoulder strap, a press stud to fasten, a zipped pocket on the inside and is fully lined.’ Oh, one can dream.

Circle Scarf from American Apparel

I’ve found a light through the tunnel that is American Apparel — the unisex circle scarf. Brought to my attention while I was surfing through the American Apparel website a few weeks ago, this lovely product which can be viewed HERE, has been making it’s way around men and women a like. The scarf can be worn the original way — around the neck — but it can also be worn as a dress, shawl, hood, top, and so much more. Definitely worth checking out, and easy on the wallet for only $33.00.

Celebrity Style: Keira Knightley & Sienna Miller

Looking flawless & beautiful at the British Independent Film awards, both Keira Knightley & Sienna Miller wowed the crowd (and myself included). Both outfits are incredibly pretty, and I love the way these two had their make-up & hair done. View more of their pictures at the original source HERE.

If you haven’t heard of Dimepiece in the streetwear/urban world, then you’re living under a rock. These two ladies — Laura & Ashley Dimes — are taking the world by storm, one season at a time. Their launch upon the scene last year was full of color, life and youth, and their re-launch of their website and Holiday 2008 collection is no different. Featuring the new faces of the ‘TWINZ’ as they are referred to on their brand new re-done website which can be found at www.dimepiecedesigns.com, it’s no wonder women are scooping up the latest designs they have to offer. My personal favorites from their holiday collection? t0845

Late Fabrication Loves: NORMLClothing, Ottawa

My first time I had a chance to go to Ottawa, I was with my best friend at the time, and we were going for a day trip since we originally were staying in Montreal. The trip was short — we checked out the Parliament, saw the mall, and walked around. Pretty basic (and boring) I had to say.

Known for being the nation’s capital, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada isn’t what most people would think is a city to go shopping; but it was my second trip to Ottawa that made me really see what Ottawa was all about. Technically my first trip by myself in a city I had no clue about, the trip was free courtesy of a conference I was attending. Luckily for me, I had a chance to stay right in the middle of downtown Ottawa, close enough to the Parliament and, at the time, a block away from any shopping.

Being into the streetwear culture and having a love of boutiques, I knew that I wanted to find something different and urban — and being from Winnipeg, with only The Urban Bakery and TUB, I really needed to see something different. So, luckily for me, one of my good friends helped me find the location, and before I knew it, I was shopping to my heart’s delight to labels like Married To The Mob NYC (which I ended up picking up) Stussy, Hellz Bellz, The Hundreds, NIKE, 10 Deep and… well, you get my picture.

I have to say though — on the very first instance that I walked into the store, I didn’t feel intimiated or pressured or ignored unlike some boutiques that I’ve walked into before. The difference between NORML Clothing and a lot of other boutiques that I noticed was that they were (1) super friendly (2) everything was easy to find (3) they had an awesome selection + line of clothing and (4) I didn’t feel pressured, and could take my time — and isn’t that essentially what everybody wants from a boutique?

Another difference that NORML has over other Canadian urban boutiques, is their collaboration with UPPER PLAYGROUND. Collarborations are far and few to come by, but when you see a boutique like NORML doing something great like this, you should know that they’re one great store.

I’m definitely looking forward to checking their store out again if & when I make my way back to the east coast. If you have a chance to stop by Ottawa, this is definitely a place that is worth checking out. RIght now as well, if you live in the Ottawa area, this Wednesday, November 26th, they’ll be having a Friends & Family night with 20-50% on everything from clothes, shoes & bags. The sale will be running from 6:00PM - 9:00PM. Check out their Facebook event HERE. As well, they’ll be having their annual Christmas Party & coat drive on Saturday, December 13th. In exchange of a new or used coat, they’ll be giving ADVANCED tickets away for FREE! They’re available now… and I suggest you get them AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! Who’s performing? Oh, well, you know – J-ROCC from Stone’s Throw Records (California), THE RUB from Ayres & Eleven (NYC) and SO MUCH MORE. Don’t have a jacket? That’s okay — $10 bucks gets you in. Read more about that awesome event HERE.

Kudos to the staff at NORML Clothing — I’m definitely going to have to make sure to have an interview with the owner & manager & staff next time I come in…. as well as shop my heart out. Again. :)

Channeling Imelda Marcos’ Style.

23 11 2008

I’ve always had a fascination with Imelda Marcos. When her husband won presidency to the Philippines in 1965, she was put as the role of first lady, thrusting her into the spotlight — and the family’s well-known corruption and abuse of power in the Philippines.

However, I’m not about to go all out about the politics that was the Philippines in the 1960-1990’s; I’m talking about the style that Imelda held. There’s a documentary that was made were she states that ‘There is a little Imelda in all of us’, and by us, I’m believing that she talking about men & women alike. With her ‘15 mink coats, 508, gowns, 888 handbags and 1060 pairs of shoes’ (Wikipedia the rest of it, and her HERE), it’s no wonder this woman was so well known. Her photos of her beautiful traditional filipino dress (often referred to as the ‘Maria Clara’, ‘Mestiza Gown‘ or ‘Filipiniana dress‘) with her hair up makes me want to channel that style.

So, in doing so, I found this beautiful Roberto Cavalli dress on ELUXURY. Not too long, but not too short either, I love the puffed sleeves and the cut of this dress. With hair puffed back up, and beautiful earrings to match (on top of shoes… can’t go wrong with the shoes!), this is a perfect outfit to channel Imelda Marcos’ style.

H&M Holiday 2008

23 11 2008

hm-xmas-ads-01

hm-xmas-ads-02

Two of several advertisements that will be headed your way by H&M. I definitely am I big believer in mixing designer/higher-end pieces with affordably priced/vintage pieces, and this ad looks like they did something along that lines (although you could probably purchase most outfits from the store).

Even though Winnipeg doesn’t have a H&M, I’m not at a loss — they have a location in Minneapolis at the Mall of America which is just a hop, skip and six hour drive away from here. On top of that, they have locations all over Canada (including my three favorite cities next to my own, Toronto, Vancouver and Calgary), as well as locations all over the United States. Either way, H&M’s pieces look worth checking out for this holiday season, especially that dress for $39.90 (USD? Not too sure?) In any case, I’ll definitely be checking a H&M out when I have a chance to.

Costa Blanca & Urban Behavior — 50% off at both stores!

20 11 2008

ub_ff2008_eng

Even though I don’t personally shop at both stores, I know a lot of my cousins & friends who do. So in honor of those people (and those of you who love this store), I give you Costa Blanca & Urban Behavior’s Friends & Family event. Head on over to their websites ( www.costablanca.com / www.urbanbehavior.com) and print out their coupon, which will give you 50% off the ENTIRE STORE. Yup, you saw correctly — the ENTIRE STORE! Head early to your nearest location. In Winnipeg, there’s only one location of each, which are available at the St.Vital location, so get there early Saturday/Sunday morning to take advantage of this great deal! (Because goodness knows I’ll probably be there with my cousins to check it out. )

Leighton Meester for Reebok

19 11 2008

Leighton Meester

She plays Blair Waldorf on Gossip Girl wearing dresses and classic skirts, but in real life, Leighton Meester is just like every other girl. Well, besides the fact that she’ll be Reebok’s new face. Filming an ad for Reebok in New York wearing a pair of Reebok’s from their new Freestyle World Tour Collection, she still looks fab! Look out for the ad soon!

(Dressy) Winter jacket of my dreams.

18 11 2008

Excuse me while I add one more item over $500 on my Christmas/birthday list. I love the fact that this jacket is:

(1) CANADIAN-made
(2) built with a scarf with the jacket AND leather detail
(3) tailored
(4) has awesome designers backing it
(5) beautiful and really, need I say more?

I can’t stop drooling.

Christian Louboutin, how you play with my emotions.

15 11 2008

chlou1Excuse me why I drool. Introduced to me by the good people at C’est La Vie, these beautiful babies are called the ‘Very Prive Tag’ by Christian Louboutin and are very drool worthy! I love Christian Louboutin’s flare for knowing what kind of shoes a woman wants, as well as his signature — the red sole. Although I always wear flats, I would definitely invest my money into these babies. Want a pair? Click HERE.

Lindsay Price: Her Little Black Dress.

14 11 2008

Lindsay Price’s character, Victory Ford, was one of my favorite characters in Lipstick Jungle (according to SOURCES, the show has sadly been cancelled because of low ratings). However, her style still lives on with some of her amazing fashion sense. Attending a H.E.L.P. Malawi fundraising event, Lindsay showed up in this amazing little black dress. Looking beautiful and wearing a satin skirt with cute top, it’s inspiration for a great party outfit — and with holiday events and parties happening all around, it’s definitely a look worth wearing out.

Alexander McQueen for Target in 2009.

10 11 2008

alexandermcqueen1

Confirmed by WWD, fashion designer Alexander McQueen will be collaborating with one of my favorite retailers, Target, to ’launch Designer Collaborations, which is aimed to be an ongoing program that will bring a series of established designers to the masses at low prices.’ It’s exciting to see something like his on shelves that I always check out. Target has had some of the best collaborations with fashion designers such as Proenza Schouler and Rogan and Richard Chai.

Designer Collaborations will be for a limited time, with each guest designer having a specific theme. Alexander McQueen’s collaboration will be called McQ Alexander McQueen for Target, and will be a mix of punk and hip accents, with Leila Moss, the lead singer of British band ‘The Duke Spirit’, being his inspiration. I’m really looking forward to see what he’ll have for Target. For more information on the line itself, check out WWD’s article on him HERE.

Marion Cotillard for Lady Dior, S/S 2009.

10 11 2008

lady_dior_500x375

When I heard that Marion Cotillard would be the new Dior spokesperson on People.com, I was really looking forward to what would be offered. The beautiful Academy Award winning French actress who starred in, ‘La Vie En Rose’ and for me, more in particular, Josephine in ‘Big Fish’, will be in the Spring/Summer 2009 campaign for “Lady Dior”, and with the launch of the ad campaign in January, the first of four has been put out to be previewed. The above image is just a glipse of what we’ll be seeing from Marion. She looks gorgeous in this preview advertisement, and now I can’t wait to see the rest!

Cassie & Lauren London in Sean Jean

10 11 2008

208d8gz

There are a few reasons I love this advertisement. (1) The location is definitely modernized. I love the interior design. (2) The shoes – Cassie’s shoes are hot in this photo. Someone get me a pair! And Lauren London’s ankle boots are cute enough to wear in the sno.  (3) I loved Lauren London in ATL with T.I., and Cassie’s ‘Me & You’ reminds me of 2006 (but I still think that she should’ve stuck with modeling than singing.) (4) It’s hot. These girls are gorgeous, and those jackets are totally wearable.

In any case, view more of the photos at the original SOURCE.

And so, Vancouver Fashion Week begins…

Although I won’t be able to be there, I’ll definitely be there in spirit and reporting coverage on Vancouver Fashion Week which started off on Tuesday, November 4th and will be running up until Sunday, November 9th. This amazing event began with a huge event which took place at Birks Jewelery in Vancouver, with a fashion show. Stay tuned for more coverage on this great event HERE.

YES WE CAN.

5 11 2008

obamawins*image courtesy of CNN.COM

Although I am a Canadian citizen, I am very active in what is going on in the United States for many reasons. It’s because of this that I have been following the American election as much as the Canadian which has just passed.

With that being said, Barack Obama is now the United States’ Elected President. This is definitely a night that is going down in the history books. To be witnessing this every step of the way on CNN as well as on Twitter and various blogs, is something nothing short of amazing. I have been a very open supporter of the Democratic party and of Barack Obama, and I am so happy and ecstatic that he has been elected President for the U.S. I can’t wait to see what he does to improve the American economy as well as immigration and other laws. It’s now going to be a very exciting time for change for the American people. On that note, I leave you with this quote from Jay-Z, ““Rosa Parks sat so King could walk, and King walked so Obama could run, and Obama ran so we all could fly.”

Comme de Garçons Collection at H&M, November 13.

3 11 2008

I’m definitely guilty for loving H&M — but it wasn’t a love-at-first-sight sort of thing. It gradually made its way to my heart. My first H&M experience came at the hand of going to the location in Minneapolis about three years ago. I wasn’t as excited and as overwhelmed because the mall where the store was located was extravagant in its own right.  The second time I had a chance to visit the store, I was in San Francisco and the experience was overshadowed by hunger, annoyance and the fact that the store itself was two floors full of (amazing) clothes. It wasn’t too bad, but I didn’t have a chance to fully explore and see everything. The third time was… well, let’s just put it this way: it definitely had its charm. I purchased an amazing black winter jacket (that I’ll be wearing again this winter), v-necks that have now lasted me over a year, and pants & skirts perfect for meetings and special occasions. I had a chance to fully explore the store, and check out the designer of the moment that was designing for them.

It’s because of this experience that I now understand that H&M is definitely a great store because of their sophisticated style and for their amazing collaborations with higher-end and well known designers. On Thursday, November 13th, The Comme de Garçons Collection will be released everywhere, and I had a chance to view most of them. Above are my four favorites — timeless and classic pieces worth the investment. If you’re near an H&M location, I suggest you check these out when it comes out!

I found Andy at Indigo.

3 11 2008

While in the new Indigo located in the brand new Kenaston Strip Mall, I stumbled upon these great Andy Warhol portraits. There are more, including the famous Campbell’s Soup and Marilyn Monroe. I especially love these ones, though, because they are all direct quotes he has personally said. They seemed to have a large collection, and I know I would love to put them in the hallways of my home.

In any case, if you’re interested in picking one up, head over to the Kenaston Indigo, located right behind Joey’s and Moxies in Winnipeg. These paintings (from the last I’ve seen) range from $29.99 and up. It’s definitely worth checking out and having in your home.

Goodbye, Blackberry Curve.

3 11 2008

A moment of silence for my good friend, Blackberry Curve. This baby got me through the first stages of Late Fabrication with many ideas, gave me some amazing contacts and fulfilled my Twitter & Facebook addictions. A crack in the screen & water damage set this little baby to burn my sim card & 1gb card that held all my contacts, music and photos.

So now, I’ll be starting my contacts all over with a BB Pearl replacement (new PIN & Blackberry E-mail address but still the same number). Did I have you as a contact? E-mail me your information at latefabrication@gmail.com, and I’ll make sure to put you back into my phone.

Review : STYLEchild on 751 Corydon, Winnipeg

23 10 2008

Boutiques have been popping up everywhere in Winnipeg, but most of them have been directed mainly to men and women’s lines of clothes. It’s because of this that parents wonder - what boutiques are there for children that can be stylish as well as different?

An answer to that question came when this past Friday, October 17th, STYLEchild Inc. located on 751 Corydon, opened its doors to the parents looking for clothes for their little ones. Taking over what used to be F&Q, this amazingly adorable boutique, with warm primary colors gracing the walls beneath giraffes and peacocks is now owned and operated by Nicole Samonte.

Now a Winnipeg parent (& even children’s) dream, the store itself has clothing ranging from infant to early teen (0-12). On top of being stylish and designer, the clothes are mid to high priced, making it affordable and still fun. Some of the great lines that they are currently carrying are Ed Hardy kids, Mimi&Maggie, Appaman, Baby Rock, Rock&Rattle, Baby Star, Inky Dink, Ooh La La Mama, Sweet Shoes, Lil Joes and One Lucky baby. The arrival of Kingsley, Knuckleheads (one great children’s line — I had a chance to see it and it’s really worth buying & checking out) and True Religion will be hitting the boutique shortly.

The atmosphere is very children - parent friendly. On top of having a little table where children can watch some tv (Treehouse/YTV) while the parent(s) shop, there are also beautiful dressing rooms for both the children and the parent to fit inside.

STYLEchild is open from Monday-Friday from 10:00am-6:00pm and Saturday from 12:00-6:00pm. Although currently there is no website, they do have a FACEBOOK group that is always welcoming new members.  A grand opening is slated for early Spring 2009. For now, check it out because it’s definitely worth a peak! And now, click ahead for your chance to …

Review: The Costume Museum of Canada on 109 Pacific Avenue, Winnipeg

23 10 2008

Even though Winnipeg isn’t as known as Toronto/Vancouver/Calgary/Montreal for having such a huge fashion reputation, I’d like to be the first to say that it really is growing out here. It’s amazing to see how much change one city can have over a few years with the influence of supporters who really love what they do — this is a prime example. The Costume Museum of Canada can be found on 109 Pacific Avenue, which is right near the waterfront, and a hop-skip and jump away from The Forks.

Interested in checking it out? Read more about it >>>>  ( HERE … )

Review: Harajuku Lovers Perfume

23 10 2008

Chosen as one of fifty lucky women to receive the Harajuku Lovers perfume that Gwen Stefani put out, I was definitely happy to receive this package in my mailbox a few weeks ago. (I blame my camera for the delay — my apologies.) In any case, I was pleased and delighted to have a chance to test out the perfume & have some family & friends have a chance to smell & see what all the fuss was about.

Parka Pretty

21 10 2008

Here in Winnipeg, although it may be Fall, it quickly turns to Winter… and eventually snow. When the end of October rolls around, Winnipeggers aren’t so surprised when snow hits the ground, and everything is covered in white. Right now, I’m on the lookout for a perfect winter jacket; and although it is a little early, it doesn’t hurt to look at what will keep me warm when the weather hits -40C (below 0F) with a windchill of -50. Yes, it’s happened before. No, I’ll never be used to it.

In any case, I think the ladies over at Civilized Spice are on the same page as me — thinking about winter coats. If you live in Vancouver, click HERE, where they are giving you some great places to check out and where to buy a winter coat. The above is a lovely Canada Goose parka. Known for its warmth that it gives in the winter, jackets like these are made of 100% duck down, as well as the same texture, if not already, wool which makes the body feel extra warm when the chill hits the bones. On top of that, it also has an awesome water repellent to make the snow easily come off the jacket when it snows, and durability to last for a while. On top of that, it has hand warmer pockets and a lifetime warranty. And the best part of the jacket? It’s Canadian! How awesome is that? I’ve seen there jackets go as low as $200 online and on Ebay, but also as high as almost $1000 at Holt Renfrew in Toronto & Vancouver. There’s something not as extravagant as this, however, at your local Joe Fresh Style for only $50; so if you’re looking for a down jacket for the winter, it’s definitely one place to check out.

Even though I have my eye on the above Canada Goose parka, there is one in particular that I’ve been eyeing since Summer — yes, Summer! I’ll have my hands on it *hopefully* by this December, if I can! :)

Artist of the Month: Musiq Soulchild

20 10 2008

Set behind a beautiful Fall day (and night), Musiq Soulchild delivers one of my favorite songs right now. Set for release this coming November 25th, this video & song is the first coming off his upcoming album entitled ‘On My Radio’. I’m usually not a big fan of Mary J.Blige (her newer stuff doesn’t get my attention as much as her older stuff, like ‘Real Love’), but she really suits this song; and this is definitely the sound I love to hear from Musiq. He previously came out with ‘Radio’, a more upbeat song that can be found on his album, but I love his mid-tempo/slow jams best.

He’s also been performing and is currently on tour. If you haven’t had a chance to catch him, he’s been performing everywhere across the US. Some fans had a chance to hear one of his newer tracks called ‘SoBeautiful’. I had a chance to watch the video of him singing it and it was so good — definitely a great slow jam. I was searching everywhere for the mp3 until finally I stumbled upon it. Now that I had the good fortune to find it, I share it with you — click to enjoy!

L’Oreal Fashion Week in Toronto…

20 10 2008

… starts today! This fashion event of the season will show case some of Canada’s best designers & fashions for the Spring 2009 collections. With a week full of fashion shows, it’s definitely a big deal. Although I couldn’t make it out this year, I know I’ll (one day!) make it out for another week soon. Even though some are by invitation only, we’ll still be able to see some of the runway photos in magazines such as Flare, Lou Lou and Elle Canada as well as on blogs, such as mine. Today’s line up is as follows: Alfred Sung , Katya Revenko, Pink Tartan and Mango.. all by invitation only. Most of the general fashion shows will be showcased starting tomorrow (Tuesday).

From e-mails that I’ve received, it’s been said that Alfred Sung will be showcasing a white collection — full of bridal gowns! Now that’s something worth seeing. In any case, Fashion TV’s Jeanne Beker (she was the host of Fashion TV for so many years… I remember watching her when I was still in junior high! Not only that, but she was also a judge in Canada’s Next Top Model) will be having one-on-one’s with designers and talking fashion backstage, as she does best. Definitely looking forward to more news about that as it comes to me.

Wondering what you may be missing out? Check out a video that was taken at fashion week in Toronto earlier this year:

Late Fabrication Loves: Matt & Nat

20 10 2008

*image courtesy of the Matt & Natt blog.

I’m a sucker for accessories — especially purses. Ask my cousin, Heidi, and she’ll tell you about my huge amount of purses (bags) I keep in my closet. One of my favorite brands of purses are Matt & Nat — an amazing, amazing eco-friendly accessory line. On top of that — THEY’RE CANADIAN! (Big plus right there!) I’ve been to a lot of different places, and whenever I’m out, I always stumble upon at least one of their amazing pieces.

I’ve been fortunate to receive a few purses & accessories that are Matt & Nat. Needless to say, these great pieces have lasted me more than three+ years, and still look as good as they did when I first got them. I love their inscription that is left on the purses — but this you’ll have to see for yourself.

Keeping up with their blog as well (it’s also found on the blogroll on the right) is something I don’t do a lot since they just started it up in May and don’t update as frequently; but they do have some awesome videos! In May, they had one insane Matt & Nat bag throwing, where they literally took their bags and threw it out the window to ladies (and some fellows) who could catch it. Don’t believe me? Check it out below — then head over to their website at http://blog.mattandnat.com/
